Why Wellness Important?

People often think about ”WELLNESS” in terms of physical health — nutrition, exercise, weight management, etc., but it is so much more. Wellness is a holistic integration of physical, mental, and spiritual well-being, fueling the body, engaging the mind, and nurturing the spirit.

Lack of sufficient attention to any one dimension will result in less-than-optimal development as a person and may lead to chronic unhappiness.

Therefore, everyone needs to achieve optimal wellness to subdue stress, reduce the risk of illness, and ensure positive interactions.

Maintaining and improving your wellness is an important part of the human body, the things we do and feel every day impact us emotionally and physically and are vital. By reducing the risk of illness and stress, we are improving our quality of life to live healthier, happier, more peaceful, and to have a positive mindset, which can be quickly done by considering and focusing on the 8 dimensions of wellness.

The 8 Dimensions of Wellness

There are eight dimensions of wellness:

occupational, emotional, spiritual, environmental, financial, physical, social, and intellectual.

Attention must be given to all the dimensions, as neglect of anyone over time will adversely affect the others, and ultimately one’s health, well-being, and quality of life. One can reach an optimal level of wellness by understanding how to maintain and optimize each wellness dimension.

They do not, however, have to be equally balanced. Instead, we should aim to strive for a “personal harmony” that feels most authentic to us. We naturally have our priorities, approaches, and aspirations, including our views on living life fully.
